The VocTech Together practical guides are a series of step-by-step modules designed to help organisations build the confidence and capability to adopt learning technology that works.
Produced by Ufi, the modules include the same expert guidance, practical frameworks and structured activities being used in the VocTech Together Support Programme, made freely available for all. They are designed to help organisations explore opportunities, make informed decisions and develop a clear plan for implementation of learning technology, at their own pace.
Whether you’re supporting people into work, training staff, delivering education and skills programmes or helping your community develop new skills, these resources can help you take the next step with learning technology.
What do they cover?
Each module explores a key aspect of successfully adopting and implementing learning technology, combining expert insight with practical exercises to help you apply the learning within your own organisation.
Rather than simply providing information, the resources are designed to help you work through the questions, decisions and planning needed to make effective use of technology. Modules include a mix of:

Technology can play a powerful role in making learning more accessible, engaging and effective. However, successful adoption is about much more than choosing a product or platform. It requires organisations to understand their needs, identify opportunities, engage with their learners, test ideas and plan for implementation.
Our aim is to help organisations make informed decisions and avoid common pitfalls when adopting learning technology by providing practical tools, proven approaches and expert guidance.

Module 1:
Refining the learning challenge and stakeholder engagement
Module 1 begins by identify the learning, skills or organisational challenge you are trying to address, developing a strong problem statement and exploring where technology could make the greatest difference. You’ll identify your key stakeholders and their role and begin to plan how you will engage with them. You’ll leave with a clearer, more focused problem and a plan for involving the right people.
Module 2:
Barriers and opportunities
Module 2 looks at barriers and opportunities, helping you understand what can impact the successful adoption of learning technologies. The module covers:
- Identifying barriers to change and adoption
- Exploring opportunities to create impact
- Simple tools to structure your thinking
- Linking your work to potential benefits
By the end of the module you’ll begin to build a realistic picture of what it will take to make change happen.
Module 3:
What do you need and want from a VocTech solution?
Module 3 focuses on helping to clarify what you actually need from your learning technology, before you consider choosing a solution. The module covers:
- Defining your goals and success measures
- Identifying requirements and constraints
- Exploring how to gather and prioritise needs
- Considering the role of stakeholders in shaping your approach
You’ll finish with a clearer, structured view of what you’re looking for.
Module 4:
Researching the market and shortlisting solutions
Module 4 will support you to explore what’s available. The module covers:
- Researching potential solutions
- Testing assumptions and refining requirements
- Comparing options against your needs
- Creating a shortlist of possible approaches
By the end of the module you’ll have the confidence to identify options that could work for your organisation.
Module 5:
Planning and designing a pilot
Module 5 supports the move from ideas to testing. The module covers:
- Deciding what to test and why
- Planning how your pilot will work
- Identifying what success looks like
- Choosing ways to gather evidence
By the end you’ll be ready to test your approach in a structured and manageable way.
Module 6:
Buying, embedding and sustaining
Module 6 is focused on implementation. The module covers:
- Planning how to introduce and embed your solution
- Understanding practical considerations like procurement and setup
- Considering how to support people to adopt it
- Thinking about longer-term sustainability and scaling
By the end of the module you’ll understand what it takes to move from pilot to real-world use.
