Ufi resources from the AELP National Conference 2025
The AELP’s National Conference is a leading forum for critical discussions on apprenticeships, skills, and workforce transformation.
As a strategic partner of the AELP, and sponsor of the technology zone at the conference, Ufi presented two workshops exploring practical steps for Independent Training Providers (ITPs) to adopt and deploy digital badging into their service provision.
Sessions were run by Josh Smith, Head of Public Affairs at Ufi, and Kev Jones, Project Account Manager at Ufi and focused on the impacts digital badging can deliver in terms of learner engagement and retention.
Workshop 1:
A practical introduction to the impact of Digital Badging for ITPs
This session offered a hands-on introduction to digital badging and its growing impact in the skills and training sector. Delegates explored how digital credentials can enhance learner engagement, improve outcomes, and support progression within a credible, standards-based framework. All delegates left having earnt their own digital badge.
Workshop 2:
A step-by-step guide to implementing digital badges for ITPs
This step-by-step workshop was designed to equip ITPs with everything they need to start using digital badges to recognise and showcase learner skills. From badge creation to platform selection and LMS integration, attendees gained hands-on experience and left with their own digital badge.
Digital Badging Commission: Exemplar badges
Ufi and the RSA launched the Digital Badging Commission to transform the way we recognise and reward learning, helping individuals demonstrate their skills, employers find the talent they need, and the wider UK economy realise the benefits of a more agile, inclusive and productivity-boosting skills system.
The Commission have recently launched a suite of free, customisable exemplar badges to support consistent, credible recognition of skills and learning across the UK.
Developed in partnership with practitioners from education, employment, and community sectors, the 12 templates show how digital badges can be used in real-world settings – from schools and colleges to volunteering, the arts, and the workplace.
Each badge is downloadable and comes with ready-made content, criteria, and platform-specific guidance for different online credential providers. The aim is to make issuing badges simpler, faster, and more meaningful for organisations who are new to the practice.
Supporting ITPs to harness the full potential of learning technology
To support innovation in the sector, AELP and Ufi VocTech Trust have come together to support Independent Training Providers to make better use of learning technologies – helping increase confidence, enhancing delivery capabilities and improving learner outcomes.
To ensure our partnership is delivering for ITPs we want to understand how providers are currently using learning technology. We really want to understand current best practice that is making an impact on learners, on employers and your own organisations. It can be leading edge AI or just good adoption of more established technologies: we want to know where technology is making a difference.
If you represent an ITP, please complete our survey to share your experience as we seek to get a better sense of the overall sector state of play. Insights from the survey will shape the direction of the Ufi and AELP partnership, helping ITPs unlock the full potential of learning technology.
