AI-powered construction training manager
The UK construction sector faces a significant skills shortage, with demand for new workers continuing to rise. While colleges provide initial training, the responsibility for developing competence in the workforce falls largely on employers, many of whom lack the time and resources to deliver training at scale. This challenge is compounded by language barriers: in many areas, a large proportion of the workforce is multilingual, but most training is delivered only in English. As a result, critical instructions are often misunderstood, leading to inefficiencies, rework and serious health and safety risks, with no reliable way for employers to verify understanding.
This project will develop a multi-lingual AI-powered training and assessment platform for construction skills, mirroring how experienced site supervisors assess and build skills on site. The system will evaluate learners’ job-specific knowledge, behaviours and technical ability through short, targeted modules in areas such as tool use, job techniques, fire safety and health and safety. Personalised feedback will be generated in-app, enabling skills to be applied immediately or signposting ongoing development when gaps in knowledge are identified. The platform will operate in multiple languages, allowing learners to access training and assessment in their preferred language.
If successful, the project will improve skills, safety and productivity, enabling effective training on multilingual worksites. At scale, this could help employers train and assess workers more consistently, supporting workforce development across the construction sector.
