Place-based collaboration: Belfast
Part of the VocTech Challenge: Skills for an Economy in Transition
As part of the VocTech Challenge: Skills for an economy in transition, Ufi and Learning and Work Institute (L&W) are working with local stakeholders across the UK with expertise in education, employment and skills, to identify the key local barriers to adult participation in learning and consider what actions we can take to address those barriers together.
On the following pages we set out our work with partners in Belfast.
Overview
In Belfast, Ufi and L&W are working alongside local stakeholders to overcome obstacles to adult learning including systemic inequalities, poverty, limited access to digital equipment, and previous negative experiences with education.
Discussions have emphasised the need for smoother pathways from learning into employment, particularly for individuals with disabilities, long-term health conditions, or caregiving duties, as well as assistance for employers in navigating the skills system.
This collaboration aims to develop tailored solutions to increase participation in learning and improve employment outcomes in the area.
