Engineering Apprentice's Mate

Using augmented reality to enhance learning experiences

Valuable learning resources for apprentices

In a typical engineering apprenticeship training environment there could be up to eight learners for every trainer.

The teaching is very practical and requires one-to-one time meaning that learners are often waiting for time with the trainer, and those that have had their training can be left waiting for the next task.

Group Training Associations (GTA) were awarded VocTech Seed funding to develop the idea of using augmented reality to change how this type of learning happens.

Engineering Apprentice's Mate is an augmented reality platform which recognises commonly used machinery and overlays relevant learning material on top of what the camera is seeing.

Information provided could be health & safety reminders, operation instructions, and more. Links to external sources are also provided at time of need for additional learning.
