CodeYourFuture win Learning With Technology Award at the Festival of Learning 2024

Ufi is pleased to announce CodeYourFuture as winners of the inaugural Learning with Technology Award at the 2024 Festival of Learning Awards

The Festival of Learning Awards, which took place earlier today, celebrates learning through the remarkable stories of people, projects, learning provision and organisations that have used learning to transform their lives and the lives of others.

CodeYourFuture have won the Learning with Technology award, a new category developed in partnership with Ufi and designed to recognise and celebrate how technology can transform adult learning and enable individuals, organisations and society to thrive.

CodeYourFuture provides free technology and soft skills training to disadvantaged and marginalised adults, enabling them to start careers in tech. Their 12-month vocational course, delivered by volunteers from the tech industry, has helped over 250 learners to gain the technical and soft skills they need.

"As demonstrated by the inspiring stories from CodeYourFuture, technology has a crucial role to play in overcoming barriers to learning. When combined with human support, learning technology can help tackle some of the most persistent obstacles to adult learning and have a huge positive benefit. Learning technology changes lives."

About CodeYourFuture

CodeYourFuture provides free technology and soft skills training to disadvantaged and marginalised adults, enabling them to start careers in tech. Their 12-month vocational course, delivered by volunteers from the tech industry, has helped over 250 learners to gain the technical and soft skills they need.

CodeYourFuture is delivered by industry volunteer trainers, many of whom are former graduates of the programme. This ensures the course is built and updated by those currently working in the sector, so it always meets industry needs.

Learners include people living below the poverty line, refugees, people with disabilities, single parents or carers, and people who are long-term unemployed. The training is free, part-time and takes a blended approach to learning, making quality training available to a range of adults who can balance learning other responsibilities. Seven out of ten graduates secure jobs in tech, changing their lives and the lives of their families.

Deago-03

Deago now works for Capgemini.

Deago, a learner with CodeYourFuture, said: “I applied to CodeYourFuture's course with minimal coding experience but a goal to find a tech career. With CodeYourFuture's support, I overcame setbacks and learned not to doubt myself. I didn't realise that there was actually a space that I could be a part of. My advice to someone else would be believe in yourself, and trust the process." Read more about Deago's story on the CodeYourFuture website.

Supporting long-term change in adult learning

CodeYourFuture were a member of Ufi's VocTech Seed cohort back in 2018.

Our grant funding supported the development of a proof-of-concept learning platform designed to extend and sustain CodeYourFuture as they developed from London into other cities and regions.

Six years later we're really pleased to see that the organisation is thriving and continuing to change lives for the better.
